Anything Can Happen Sunday!

If you woke up with a smile on your face and a feeling that today is special, it’s probably because you remembered that today is Anything Can Happen Sunday. Widely regarded as the best day in blogging, ACHS is a proud Pucker Up Buttercup tradition, the origins of which have been traced back as far as two weeks. When I tell you how we’re going to celebrate Anything Can Happen Sunday, you’ll be saying, “Gosh! I guess anything really can happen!” Continue reading →

Still prompt free!

I only recently returned to blogging after I accidentally let what was supposed to be a short hiatus, drag on for nearly a year and a half. It’s something that happens to everyone — one minute you’re telling yourself you’ll post something tomorrow and the next thing you know, you’re wondering how the hell you missed 2014. The WCOID – Day 20, On Licorice Pizza and Death By Pop Rocks

No prompts, I’m free-wheeling!

I was waxing nostalgic with my dad not long ago because listening to him talk about his childhood makes me feel somewhat less ancient by comparison. It also got me thinking about what had changed, aside from clothes, hair styles and music, since I was younger. I think most of what I miss, and what makes feel bad that today’s kids won’t have, are experiences or feelings rather that things. That is, I don’t think it’s sad that taking music “to go” no longer requires a fanny-pack full of cassette tapes and extra batteries. But it’s a bit of a shame that they won’t feel the joy of going to Licorice Pizza and finding that elusive album they’d been searching for. It’s also a little sad to realize that many have no idea why it was even called Licorice Pizza. Continue reading →

The WCOID – Day 19, On Toast and Memories
What would you run out of the house with if your home caught on fire

Yesterday my parents0047 day 19 celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. And when I say “celebrated,”I mean my dad watched Law & Order reruns in the living room, while my mom watched her Korean Dramas in the bedroom … so pretty much the same thing they do everyday. But that’s not unusual or a red flag that the honeymoon is suddenly over after only 53 years. It’s just how they are and how they’ve always been.

No Book Today, I’m Free-Range

It’s probably fairly normal that people who’ve been diagnosed with any kind of mental illness will question the accuracy of that finding. I’ve gone back and forth with the bipolar thing … it makes sense because there’s a bit of a family history, but how could I not have known until now? It seems so common for everyone to have something, so I couldn’t help wondering if maybe I’d been mislabeled.

The WCOID – Day 16, On The Trouble With Topics

I’m going bookless today!

I’d selected a writing prompt last night … I think I’ve mentioned that sometimes I like to let my brain work on a post while I sleep. But before I could noodle it around very much, it occurred to me that aside from a casual remark or two, it’s been a while since I blogged about my adventures in Lesbiland. Continue reading →

Damn, I wish I wrote that …

I’ve been inspired to do something new, which I’m calling “Damn, I wish I wrote that …” After Cikumukami’s post caused me to inhale my ice cream (and you thought ice cream headaches were bad…), I thought, “Gee, I bet other people would like to know what almost killed me.” So here’s her spot-on explanation of how lesbians … y’know …

It’s A Little Dyke In Here – March 2, 2015

“So what do you actually, you know… do?”
“Well. It all begins with something we like to call the “joining of the lunar essences”. We hold hands, look deeply into each other’s eyes and harness one another’s erotic energy. Next comes an elaborate tea-drinking ceremony, where we name our favorite feminist poets. If we agree on more than three, we can move onto the binding of the goddess egos.”
