The WCOID – Day 7, On Old Friends Being New Again

0036 7 daysThe Writing Challenge of Indeterminate Duration – Day 7
Ten years from now, you meet up with an old friend you haven’t seen in a decade. Write the conversation you have.

Are you as surprised as I am?  This is my seventh post in as many days – who’d-a-thunk? With my recent track record, I was prepared to have blown it sometime around day three. And not to be all sweet and sticky, because I don’t care for that stuff, but all the support I got when I knocked the dust of my blog last week, is what kept me going. So thank you, it means a lot and it helped enormously. Continue reading →

Some Blog!

I dug this one out of the vault because it’s one of my favorites.  I was reading the blog of my dear friend, Temper, who was the inspiration for the story and was hit with a sudden wave of nostalgia. So I figured I’d drag you all down memory lane with me. Enjoy!

“Why did you do all this for me?” he asked. “I don’t deserve it. I’ve never done anything for you.”

“You have been my friend,” replied Charlotte. “That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I liked you. After all, what’s a life, anyway? We’re born, we live a little while, we die… By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Heavens knows anyone’s life can stand a little of that.”

The WCOID – Day 6, On The Traveling Jesus

0035 number 6 2The Writing Challenge of Indeterminate Duration – Day 6
Tell a complete stranger about a beloved family tradition

Although I’m from what I consider a traditional family – – mom, dad, house in the suburbs, 2.5 children (my younger brother was born without his right-side, it’s not something we generally talk about), we didn’t have many traditions when I was growing up and we have even fewer now. We tried to Continue reading →

The WCOID – Day 5, On Tangents

0034 nmbr 5The Writing Challenge of Indeterminate Duration – Day 5
What is public and what is private? What should be public and what should be private? What do public and private mean today?

I only had to skip over one topic today to land on one that felt doable … and I did it because I care about each and every one of you. The prompt that I gave a pass to was describe your day, hour by hour, and I figured you’ve got better things to do than Continue reading →

The WCOID – Day 4, On Spontaneously Combusting Trousers

The Writing Challenge of Indeterminate Duration – Day 4
Write about something you know nothing about. Make it all up

I though0033 TWCOID - Day 4t that today was going to be the first time I ventured outside the pages of my book for a post prompt, because every random page I landed on had suggestions that were serious or depressing . . . Continue reading →

The WCOID – Day 3, On Writer’s Block

nmbr 03The Writing Challenge of Indeterminate Duration – Day 3
What does writer’s block feel like?

A better topic for me at this point might have been what does it feel like to write about writer’s block when you have writer’s block? Maybe I’ll refer to this experience tomorrow and write about one of my favorite things: irony. Continue reading →

The WCOID – Day 2, On Drowning

nmbr 02The Writing Challenge of Indeterminate Duration – Day 2
The closest you ever came to drowning.

I remember hearing or reading or hallucinating that death by drowning is a rather peaceful way to go. And based on my own experience of nearly drowning, I believe that assessment is what’s typically referred to as “complete and utter bullshit.” Unless, of course, your definition Continue reading →

The Writing Challenge of Indeterminate Duration – Day 1

nmbr 01It’s the first day of the WCOID (Writing Challenge of Indeterminate Duration), and I’ve neither quit nor made up any excuses that would allow me to postpone the start date; so I’m feeling pretty proud of myself right about now. But I have been thinking about what I’ve gotten myself into, because I had a little panic surge when Continue reading →

I’m Not Queer

I have been somewhat taken to task by a reader who felt a recent post wasn’t quite up to snuff for an “apparently queer blog.” But before I begin, I want to clarify that this isn’t a rebuttal-slam post. The comment simply set my noggin wheels to spinning and this is a product of that spin cycle.

I also want to make it clear Continue reading →

Let me do a few tricks

Some old and then some new tricks

I’m very versatile …

Sweet fancy Moses! First the Liebster Award and now this! Does my awesomeness know no bounds? I’d like to thank the lovely and talented Amanda at Write in the Wrong Way for this award. She smokes, she drinks, she swears and she’s a soccer mom! If we could just do something about her heterosexuality and that pesky husband of hers
